High-oneer's Guide to 4/20

By Jack Foersterling

Cities across the USA are known for some of the best holiday celebrations...
Mardi Gras in New Orleans
St. Patrick’s Day in Boston
New Year’s Eve in New York,
but do you know how to...

Weed enthusiasts have long honored this high holiday as a day to celebrate the green plant called cannabis, and lucky for Colorado, the celebration is right around the corner! If it’s your first 4/20 in the Centennial State or you are a seasoned veteran, here are some ways to make the most of the 2016 celebrations in Denver.

Stop by the Denver 420 Fest

Taking place between April 15th and 17th, the Denver 420 Fest is an amazing 3-day event put on by Colorado Highlife Tours at the Glitter Dome Event Center. The fest will feature a variety of vendors in the cannabis industry, including clothing, glass, art, jewelry and more. Local artists and DJs, featuring Lil’ Flip, will kick off the celebration in Denver with live music performances.

Blunts and Beats

Each year, April 20th brings a slew of artists and musicians to Denver to ring in the holiday with concerts and shows across the city. This year is no different with two noteworthy shows taking place at Red Rocks and Fiddler’s Green. 420 Eve on the Rocks: Method Man and Redman, features several members of Wu-Tang Clan at Colorado’s greatest concert venue on the night of the 19th. The 3rd Annual Merry Jane Wellness Retreat, hosted by KS 107.5, includes marijuana mogul Snoop Dogg, Future and Friends in Englewood at Fiddler’s Green.

4/20 truly wouldn’t be the same without all of the work our local dispensaries do to provide us with the best bud Colorado has to offer. With the number of tourists visiting Colorado for 4/20 growing every year, dispensaries will be well stocked with amazing product and great deals for the big holiday. Denver 420 Rally

Let your friends know you’re going with #420rally.

Let your friends know you’re going with #420rally.

The annual 420 rally, a non-profit organization dedicated towards building an inclusive and engaged community, is one of the longest held traditions in Colorado’s 420 history. The event takes place at Civic Center Park on Saturday the 16th from 10am to 8pm. Join thousands of marijuana enthusiasts for the largest cannabis gathering in the world featuring Wiz Khalifa and Lil’ Wayne. Best of all, this celebration is young, wild and FREE, but access passes are encouraged for the best experience.

Remember Safety First: Obey the Law

While this day is all about the celebration of one of Earth’s greatest plants and the freedom of choice we’ve seen evolve in Colorado over the past few years with recreational sales, laws still apply. Public consumption is illegal, so consider an edible at home before the show for longer lasting effects. You must be 21+ to consume marijuana - make good decisions and celebrate responsibly!

4/20 is just a week away – stock up on supplies and get plans aligned! Whether it’s just a trip to the dispensary or joining friends out on the town, 4/20 in Denver is a wonderful day to celebrate the progress the cannabis movement has made in Colorado and around the world.

Caucus for Cannabis | Where the 2016 Election Candidates Stand on Weed

There’s been a lot of showmanship this election season, a lot of TALK, but where do the leading candidates stand on WEED?

According to Donald Trump, “We’re losing badly the War on Drugs. You have to legalize drugs to win that war. You have to take the profit away from these drug czars.” YES! A Republican candidate who gets it. Wait. That was in 1990...when Trump was a Democrat. These days, Donald and the mini-Trumps are pretty much on the same anti-pot page including his newest minion, Chris Christie, who tosses in a little extra bluster: “See if you want to live in a major city in Colorado where there’s head shops popping up on every corner and people flying into your airport just to come and get high. To me, it’s just not the quality of life we want to have here in the state of New Jersey.” Lofty words from a shamelessly opportunistic politician whose claim to fame is being the least attractive person ever to stop traffic.

The most hackneyed and disproven right-wing view in this race actually comes from a doctor, Ben Carson, who says, “marijuana is what’s known as a gateway drug...and I don’t think this is something that we really want for our society.” The problem here, of course, is that it’s hard to dis cannabis when you sound like Chris Walken on morphine and are unable to speak with your eyes open. By the way, if the 2016 Presidential race were a low budget B-film, rather the high-budget B-film it is, one of the most colorful characters would be the perpetually stoned Dr. Ben Carson, aka “The Spaceman”.

Among the leading Democrats, Hillary Clinton’s views on marijuana have evolved year to year, from inconclusive to uncertain, landing firmly on indecisive in 2016. Senator Bernie Sanders’ views on legalizing marijuana, however, make him the most pro-pot candidate and are in line with his overall platform. As he stated in a recent debate, “We have a criminal justice system that lets CEOs on Wall Street walk away, and yet we are imprisoning or giving jail sentences to young people who are smoking marijuana.”

Throwing a wrench into the political works is Billionaire Michael Bloomberg (“The BMB”), poised to run as an independent in the event of a Trump/Sanders contest. New York’s former mayor calls the legalization of pot in Colorado, “one of the stupider things that’s happening across our country.” He believes marijuana contributes to lower IQ scores in our nation’s children. What, now? Can Dr. Spaceman Carson verify this?

Behind the Scenes at Sweet Grass Kitchen

The @sweet_grass_kitchen gallery is an opportunity for consumers to get a sneak peak into the behind the scenes at Sweet Grass Kitchen. Each day our kitchen bakes from scratch, allowing for creativity and some extremely delicious photos...if only Instagram had a scent feature! Here are the top Sweet Grass Kitchen Instagram posts from 2016:

Who doesn't love a free cookie? Sweet Grass Kitchen is excited to announce our new multi-serving products at 100mg (10 servings = 10 cookies)! Snickerdoodle Cookie Stacks are available now at recreational care centers across Colorado. Don't worry, we increased the Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites too!

Have you seen Julie Berliner and the Sweet Grass Kitchen crew on the History Channel's Marijuana Revolution yet!? This was one of the most exciting opportunities for Sweet Grass Kitchen in 2015. The staff enjoyed some snacks and laughs watching the documentary together in January!

Sweet Grass Kitchen started with one really delicious chocolate chip cookie recipe and a friends request to infuse it with cannabutter. Heading into Year 6, the cannabutter is greener and the original chocolate chip cookies are still the favorite! All products are infused with SGK full flower, triple strained cannabutter for the most reliable effect!

It's the New Year, so why not indulge? Let's be real, the resolution can wait another day, it's a holiday after all! This homemade 'sin'-a-bun is topped with Sweet Grass Kitchen Peanut Butter Cookie crumble adding a salty/sweet taste followed by a relaxing body effect that the hangover greatly appreciated. Cheers to the New Year!

12 Days of Cannabis Christmas

By Rachel Gallagher

It’s the holiday season, and if you’re anything like me this year, the gift list is still on your to-do. Not to worry; these 12 cannabis Christmas gifts are easy to order and will have friends and family jumping with joy! It may not be your true love, but if anyone gave these gifts to me, it sure might feel like it. Here are 12 of my personal favorite cannabis gifts for the ones that are your true buds in life!

On the FIRST day of Christmas my true love gave to me…

A Dope Light in a Pear Tree

These festive green cannabis leaf lights are hanging highly on the branches of my little Charlie Brown tree. I love celebrating joys of the holiday season all mixed up with a little American freedom. A further splurge would combine the green lights and some hand blown glass ornaments. My tree has never been so dope!

On the SECOND day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

2 Weed Leaf Socks

My obsession with fly socks started young and is still strong. I mean, what better way to high-light your Vans, Chucks, and J's? If you work in cannabis, subtle Mary Jane accessories of this kind are not only welcome but often a conversation starter. Whether they turn into a weekend favorite or a workday staple, these tubes are worth every penny.

On the THIRD day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

3 Custom Lighters

My ability to hold onto lighters is unparallel. Why? Because custom lighters are a lot harder to swipe unnoticed. Kenzie Kay makes a series of custom lighters for under $10. My personal favorites happen to be the Harry Potter styles, but you can find something for everyone in your gift-giving circle. Cross these stocking stuffers off of your list!

On the FOURTH day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

4 Bud Suds

One of the beautiful things about cannabis is that its cousin, hemp, can be made into some really dope soap (amongst other things). Of course there are a variety of cannabis infused topicals and CBD products, but for someone looking to enjoy some soapy suds without the psychoactive effects of THC – Dope on a Rope is perfect for the non or novice cannabis user on your list!

On the FIFTH day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

5 Cookie Cutters

Marijuana leaf cookie cutters can be used in many ways to knock items off your list! Whether you have a friend that loves to bake or you plan to purchase these for yourself, everyone is happier with fresh baked cookies. For those of you on a tight gifting budget this year - wake, bake, and create your own holiday gifts! A box of cannabis cookies, leaf shaped (non-THC!) dog treats, or even marijuana ornaments for the tree!

On the SIXTH day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

6 Months of Gift Giving

These days, everything can be delivered to your doorstep making gift giving even easier. With myTHCbox.com, smoking accessories and other amazing goodies are not to be forgotten. Membership gets a monthly delivery that contains anything from hemp products to original art and gourmet snacks! A subscription for these box deliveries is #1 on this girl's wish list for 2015.

On the SEVENTH day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

7 People Playing

One of my favorite holiday traditions is playing board games with loved ones. The smell of competition is intertwined with that of hot apple cider and some Christmas kush.  Pass the Grass is an adult-only 'joint' adventure that undoubtedly leads to a fit of giggles. Bring this game to your holiday parties to be the talk of the town.

On the EIGHTH day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

8 Maids a Toking

Try not to get caught up searching for the ‘perfect gift’ for a friend or loved one. Sometimes all they need is the gift of giving. There are tons of great charities and organizations to work with this season to host a holiday wrapping party with friends! You can share your holiday spirit by providing enough delicious green and munchies while you and your buds wrap boxes for a good cause.

On the NINTH day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

9 Mitts of Mary

Cooking is most often the epicenter of the holiday season and a true crowd pleaser. If you’re hosting this year or participating potluck style, these assorted oven mitts are sure to add flavor to the kitchen! Mix and match for the perfect combination of herb and herbs for your holiday meals!

On the TENTH day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

10 Nails a Blingin'

My nail artist came to me via a recommendation from the most stylish person I know, and my digits are fierce as a result. When your budget is tight these decals are affordable and adorable; best of all they bring a little cannabis to your tips!

On the ELEVENTH day of Christmas my true love gave to me:

11 Kush Kards Sending

Holiday cards are something I look forward to every year, seeing photos of my friends and their families warms my heart.  If you want to send a card with a twist, Kush Kards are the epitome of the traditional greeting card enhanced with the ability to take puff-puff-pass to a whole new level. Funny and functional, the cards are geared to all those who love a holiday doobie or x-tra special x-mas cookie. Just remember not to send anything suspicious over state lines!

On the TWELFTH day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

12 Stoners Drumming

No, I do not mean getting together in a circle and singing Little Drummer Boy (although that could be fun). Going home for the holidays means seeing friends who you may have been missing. I can't think of a better way to get reacquainted then going out to see live music together. A holiday concert or theater tickets are a great way to spend quality time. March to the beat of your own unique drum!

One last tip, if you are a cannabis lover on a budget there is an amazing website called Growpon. Like its more well known competitor it has great deals on all things green. I wish all of you a happy and healthy holiday season, I hope it is full of cannabis joy!
